Hey Steve,

You bet it's a poor choice because in a metaphysical context it fails to 
explain anything. Might as well just concede things happen for no 
reason at all. In other words, "Oops." At least Pirsig offers a motive for 
apparent randomness -- aspiring toward moral improvement or, more 
simply, betterness..
