mysticism, in as much as it is an -ism, is always
going to be an inadequate marker for that which it
pertains to.
a mystical reality is the whole whatsit though. SOM
doesn't admit the mystic source of all conditioned
reality....that is why SOMites and materialists are
always searching for something else....they know there
is something missing but they forget it's not a
*thing* at all. things are the problem.
a mystical reality is a magical reality is a spiritual
reality is an infinite reality is an indeterminate
reality is an open reality is an aesthetic reality. to
the mystic, intelligence spirituality and aesthetic
awareness are one and the same.
yes another name for a mystical source/centre is god
and there is a lot of baggage with the name....so? the
bible is full of good stuff for those who read with an
MOQ eye, as eckhart tolle has shown beautifully. jesus
is very zen, and his teachings ONLY make sense from a
mystic viewpoint.
so........the MOQ reinforces the spiritual aspect of
existence, as opposed to the dull negation of
nihilistic materialism. Call it God, DQ, Tao,
whatever...the point is that the term is always a
marker for something beyond marking...and that which
is beyond marking is infinite and there is only one
infinite. therefore we are all referring to the same
non-thing anyway. the important thing is that if we
are trying to use language to get a better handle on
the infinite we have to use it with the skill and
sensibility of an artist....the more literal we are
the further we are from the source. Evocation not
definition; poetry not prose.
anyway the point of this post was to try and bridge a
divide i thought existed here: between the 'theists'
and 'non-theists'. in effect there is no divide: the
theists are conflating DQ with a supreme being, in
keeping with many religious traditions all over the
world (valuable common ground); the non-theists
conflate DQ with an unanthropomorhised process...a la
the Tao; i like this approach.
in each case there is an unavoidable spirituality; in
each case there is unavoidable error: a falling short
of. the MOQ affirms a spiritual reality that has been
faltering under the twin assaults of dogmatic religion
and logical positivism for quite a while.
and that's simply divine, don't you think?
