Arlo, Dan, and Jos,

     I read your posts up and until now.  I still see
what I'm saying as being a resolution.  Dan mentioned
SOM is an idea, and MoQ is about ideas.  This is
exactly what I've been saying.  I see the intellectual
level as the level where ideas exist.  I see the
social level as where sharing occurs.  Thus,
intellectual = thoughts/mind and social = sharing.

     Arlo you asked about thinking?  Thinking is an
intellectual level activity.  Yet, if I share my
thoughts with somebody then this sharing is upon the
social level.  The 'signs about signs' is
intellectual.  If I notice a 'Don't Walk' sign, then
this would take intellectual activity to understand. 
The sign being positioned where it is and what the
intellect ('Don't Walk' idea) is sharing with the
public is to create organization upon the social
level.  We can socialize with each other sharing
(contributing) thoughts with each other, as we do upon
MOQ discuss, and this is how this society, the MoQ
discuss contributors, is provided intellect, which is
just the model Pirsig states the MoQ is to provide for
society at large.  A society guided by intellectual
activity.
     Notice how this by-passes individual v.
collective as well.  Sure the individual is thinking
and is enjoying hopefully an intellectual level
activity solely by him/her self.  The sharing of
thoughts is thus done with a society, but this sharing
of thoughts stimulates individuals and therefore
societies are founding intellectual activity.  Yet,
this is a society of individuals sharing thoughts. 
So, individual and collective still really hasn't much
to do with distinguishing the levels, it is just
individuals and societies carrying and sharing these
thoughts.
     

     Jos brought up how consciousness is not
intellectual.  Jos, you state that certain awareness'
of cells would be cell culture, and I guess what you
might be trying to avoid is a machine/robot type
description of cells, planets, etc...  Pirsig places
the workings upon each of the levels is due to value. 
The question or statement you might be putting forth
is values = intellectual, always?  Is this correct,
Jos?  
     Jos you also state as follows:  "Beneath that
there may be no distinction and one-ness is
understood."  This is either static quality or quality
itself your mentioning.  Are you also saying quality =
consciousness?
