No bale out here. (Is it bale or bail?) Just been too busy with settling in
my new digs. My computer rests pecariously on a card table while waiting for
a new desk to arrive. I'm also dealing with a new cable company that has its
own ideas about e-mail. Time will cure all current hindrances to full
participation in the MD.

In fact, my New Year's resolution is to write in the MD about morals
exclusively. For too long too many have have avoided or skirted the subject.
Yet Pirsig's entire metaphysics is of and about morality. To talk about
anything else is to skirt Pirsig's major contribution to philosophy,
beginning with his proposition that "Cultures are not the source of morals,
only a limited set of morals." (Lila,24), directly contradicting Ham's belief.

I deeply appreciate Ham's and Arlo's willingness to tackle moral questions.
Their last few posts have been models of intelligent debate on the subject.
I hope to join in soon. In the meantime, please continue. Hopefully others
will see fit to join in.
