Thanks Case for not oversimplifying the situation
in society and the world can be added to the mix as
well. Ham's list is dehumanizing, without feeling,
and just this straight out listing of negative
behaviors. I could make a list of what's bad in the
world too. Such as war, famine, etc..., but anybody
that thinks they can wrap this all up with a list, and
doesn't look beyond such a list, is trapped in a
logical bubble.

[Case]
I envy Ham's ability to lump and categorize, to put things in neat little
boxes that can be stacked away and ordered. If something doesn't fit or
refuses to play by the rules we can just give it a whole new pile of its
own. Whatever we do, we must classify that which is offensive as "other".
Winos and crack whores are defective. Their sins are not ours. When we miss
the mark we get another chance and we do not like to be told or reminded
that it is possible for us to run out of chances.

I think what has gotten a bee up my butt about this is that recently I have
told a few people about the things I see outside my window everyday. What I
get is looks of disgust and then dismissal. I don't expect anyone to do
anything about this stuff. Even if you could straighten them out more winos
and crack whores would be there to take their place.

What disturbs me is not so much the thought that I wouldn't to that, it is
the implied conviction that I could not do that. It is the denial of
possibility. It is the belief that I am above fate. I have the good life
because I earned it. I deserve it. If you don't have it, you don't deserve
it. This is that brand of cosmic justice Job's friends insisted upon.

Perhaps a God who says, "Shit happens" is a damn sight more merciful than
"friends" who just say, "Tough Shit."
