What is the intellectual debate about Islamic veil wearing? So far, as I've
skipped a lot of these nude Isalmic veil wearing posts, I haven't seen what the
intellectual debate is.

That's because its not an intellectual debate as Platt frames it. The only
intellectual-level relation is in challenging the _forcing_ of the veil, either
on or off. Caught inbetween are people who should have the freedom to partake
of a social-level ritual is they choose, but who should not be punished by
violence if they choose not to. What underlies this is plainly and simply
_fear_. At least Ham was honest about that. Muslims scare us, and so we have
the _right_ to force them to act against their own will. Platt, on the other
hand, tries once again to pervert this right-wing fear into a MOQ-justified
position, by equating forcing women TO wear veils with "religion", but forcing
them NOT TO wear veils with "intellect". As always "free choice" equates to
being "free to choose to be like me". Try to choose differently, and you see
how quickly our champions of "individual freedom" resort to social law to
enforce conformity to their behavior. This is also why Platt evades my
questions. He wants to come across one way, but is really quite the opposite.

And yes, laws should be framed by intellectual level reasoning. What
"intellectual level" reason has been given that would support forcing women not
to wear veils? Ham tried "fear", and then "paranoia in the marketplace", but
both of these are underscored important legal ramifications. For example,
should we forbid by law a severely disfigured person from wearing a veil in
public? And if its Muslim traditions we fear, why stop at a ban on veils? Why
not ban the religion outright? It seems ridiculous to say we allow people to
believe any religion they want, but they can't act in any way that follows that
religion. In other words, you can be a Muslim, but we better not see any
evidence of it publically.
