i don't think we need a planetary government.
i don't think we need government full stop (what do
you reckon platt?).
power corrupts.
Mark 20-11-06: Hello Gav,
Power certainly corrupts. Behaving like a pompous arsehole is a sure sign
the process is well under way Mr. McTwat!
Global conditions may bring about serious shortfalls in food supplies which
would require Globally co-ordinated responses. Also, the Global population
would require monitoring. Perhaps our Global government would be large village
hyperspacial convening?
I'm all for keeping it small and manageable.
Gav:
this may sound ridiculously idealistic to some but
with the advent of the internet i believe the 'global
village' can become a reality.
Mark 20-11-06:
Marshall McLuhan felt so. I agree.
The relationship between local and planet must not fall into a SOM-type one
though.
The moq seems to provide a way of looking at the global village which makes
it work.
Gav:
all localities should be self-supporting *and*
self-governing. real (participative) democracy in
other words.
Mark 20-11-06:
Just as long as i get to play my guitar at 3 in the morning during the
summer?
Gav:
on issues which require higher level co-ordination
(environment issues for instance) the wants/needs of
different communities would be relatively similar.
reaching consensus should be possible without
instituting any static hierarchies.
Mark 20-11-06:
So it's self reinforcing?
A part/whole relationship which looks similar at all levels?
If enough people vision it this stands a chance.
Love,
Mark
