David M said to Marsha:
God is like an absent parent who we can't help imagining or talking to, or
holding to account, or questioning, that what is what the history of the
human race tells me. Some have stopped, some have not, what other truth is
there?

dmb says:
God is like an imaginary parent? What does that make of the believer then? A
child? And you don't have a problem with that? Aren't you a middle-aged man,
just about old enough to be a grandfather? See, this is exactly the kind of
thing that gives religion a bad name. Imaginary friends are fine if you're
four years old, but isn't there a point where persisting in such a thing
would indicate some kind of arrested development or maybe a personality
disorder? What other truth is there?
