A thing I too have been curious about. Recently I borrowed Barbara G.  
Walker's "The women's encyclopedia of myth and secrets" and have found a  
new way to look at and understand my cultural background.

It's fascinating how we tend to rationalize strange behaviour and  
legitimize it just because we are acustomed to it. Custom rules us more  
than most seem to understand.
