Frequently writing in these threads seems like trying to communicate with
aliens. Hard to whistle in print tho.

Can you give an example of such a malady that didn't exist for centuries
before & why discourse rather than values, behavior, etc. is to blame.

Actually before these maladies set in there has cholera, small pox, and many
a young woman died in child birth. But there where extended families and the
children the lived tended to be well cared for. As Pirsig points out, if you
look at the lifestyle of say the Plains Indian tribes I would say in many
respects and by many measures their quality of life was high. In any event
they did not adopt a modern point of view by choice.
