[MD] are theism and mysticism mutually exclusive notions?

Aaah, but the devil is in the details isn't it?

I have started to lay this out more systematically several times but things
always get bogged down, then degenerate quickly. Once I even supplied a link
to a page with the Game of Life on it and some instructions on what to look
for.

I think if you look at cellular automata (the Game of Life being about the
simplest) and a fractal set generator (UltraFractal is the most recent I
have seen) you can see clearly how the very universe works. You see infinite
(actual mathematical infinity not speculative philosophical infinity)
complexity from an equation as simple as Z=Z2 + C (Z squared that is).

With cellular automata you can see organic looking behavior generated from
three simple rules. The power of these insights is that complex behavior and
complex systems do not require a complex universe. The world around us might
not require the degree of fine tuning we have traditionally thought. All you
need is a Goldilocks Zone.

Previously I had hoped to move from the Game of Life to the fractal
generators which I thought Platt for one would find beautiful if not
interesting. But no one was interested...

In my very first post in the MoQ I expressed the belief that the Mandelbrot
set IS the MoQ. Reality IS that squiqqlly path balanced between zero and
infinity - eternity and the void.

But you know how it is.
Some other time I guess.

Hi Case

My own view is that Pirsig took an outstanding first crack at a

David M: I think this is right on the money. Pirsig I believe
offers an entirely new kind of metaphysics and by jove
it fits with exactly what the cutting egde of science is pointing
at. Uncertainty and openness, yes, and these have political
consequences too, it says to me, yes, there is always an
alternative.
