Language is how we communicate about experience but I do not find that
language plays that great a role even in my memory. I remember feelings,
vague impressions of the past...

This is dubious psychology.  Do you remember the last time you hurt
yourself?  Does remembering this cause you pain?  Do you remember the first
house you lived in?  You know, the 3-bedroom one?  Did you just remember the
3 bedrooms?  One at a time or all at once?  How about state capitals, your
times tables, etc.?

Introspection is almost always a dubious form of psychology. I am not
demeaning the role language plays in human affairs but in terms of how we
respond through out the day, what we remember and how we interact with our
memories there is much that is not verbal or rational at all.

If you ask anyone to describe what they have done or to relate a memory you
will get a verbal response. But memories or pain and the spatial layout any
place you have ever lived are particularly likely to be non-verbal memories.
State capitals and times tables are verbal and rational from the start.
