What kind of intellect is it you visualize? That the ancient 
mythological reality was "ancient intellect", then this content 
being pressed downwards by new ideas from the top and finally 
becoming a SOM-dominated intellect and this being overlaid by a 
Quality content. If that is a correct interpretation everything is 
intellect and it has lost all meaning. It is a mental container 
exactly as SOM's mind.

Yes why not complete the Quality butchering of making a static 
level into DQ itself? But about intellect defining intellect I agree 
with you, it's not only wrong but plain impossible (ref. your 
"mountain view")  It's the MOQ that defines intellect, and it 
defines it as a STATIC level (write that ten times on the 
blackboard ;-)

The MOQ is too big to remain Pirsig's property, it's the greatest 
philosophical breakthrough since Socrates-Plato-Aristotle 
instigated SOM. Pirsig now establishing the next metaphysical 
"level" Perhaps better to say he COULD have because his 
intellectual hang-up i.e: refusing to leave SOM hinders the MOQ 
in achieving its full potential.

As said a million times before. No level can be improved seen 
from its own perspective and that goes for intellect. An amoeba is 
BETTER biology than a mammal organism. its only from the 
overall Q-evolution perspective the latter is good because it 
became the biological stepping stone to society. At the social 
level the clan and tribe are more stable social pattern than the 
Greek City State, but the latter became the social stepping stone 
to intellect. To pursue this further, the first simple Socratic 
objective TRUTH vs subjective OPINION is a more stable 
intellectual pattern than the later more complex ones, but these 
were/are better because they became the intellectual stepping 
stones to the final MOQ "level".
