Or, the cause could have nothing to do with human decision making whether
SOM based or not. Could be a virus or a change in the earth's magnetic field.
Things that happen at the biological level are not always our fault. I think
SOM scientists are the ones most likely to find the cause and come up with a
cure. But, I agree there's always the possibility that any cure will have
unintended consequences.
