I rather thought I destroyed it convincingly.

Yes, because as I said before: "It would be absurd for each individual
to go out and repair/build roads, everytime they wanted to travel somewhere.
[Arlo]
> it is in the best interests of EVERYONE, even those without cars,

If this is true, it should be no trouble to get people to VOLUNTARILY support
public roads without force. Otherwise, to quote Bertrand Russell, your solution
has "all the virtue of theft over honest toil".
[Arlo]
> saying those attending private schools are paying twice. That's just wrong.
Those I've talked to feel they are paying twice. Might it be because you work
in the public school system, you look at this issue with a bias? Just as many
teacher's unions oppose educational vouchers.
[Arlo]
> Whether or not YOU take advantage of the public schools with
> your child is your choice.
And when a mugger says: "Your money or your life", you have a choice. This
is a low quality notion of 'choice'.
[Arlo]
> should families (or single adults) with no children pay educational "tax" at all?
They shouldn't be forced to, though if it's in their interest they should.
[Arlo]
> Should families with children be compelled by the government to send
> their children to a school? Why?
They can be compelled to send them to school or home school, because that is
an obligation of parenthood.
