Craig,

Obviously we are at fundamental odds over funding. Let me ask this 
question, about the military (and police, and fire, etc).. You've 
said "privatization" would be bad, and then articulated reasons why. 
What if we had one national army (or one national police force, etc), 
but made support of it voluntary (charitable based, as you suggest 
for education)? Would that work? Why not?

Also, my questions in response to "federal standards" are critical, I 
think. "Why" do we feel it is in the best interest of the child to 
force their parents to "educate" them? What is our goal? Employment? 
Informed voting? "Exposure to the arts"? What do YOU think the 
outcome of compulsory education should be? A skilled adult? An 
informed adult? Informed to do what? Vote? An "enlightened" adult?
