Ham, Gav, DMB, Ron et al:

My head is still spinning from the responses to my questions about
consciousness. A better word than "consciousness" or "experience" seems
to
be "awareness." Also some posit the need for a "knower" of awareness,
also
called a "locus" of awareness.

Ron:
Awareness, is. It's locus is conceptual. this is the root of the
dilemma.

Platt:
Two points. 1) I don't see any difference between a "knower" and a
"self,
as in "self-conscious. 2) "Consciousness" has no verb form with "I" (or
self) as the subject. We don't say "I conscious" or "I aware," but we do

say "I experience" and "I sense."

Ron:
Good observations, language plays a part in how we conceptualize the
self.

Platt:
Finally, I quickly descend into infinite regress when I try to identify
the
the "Knower" of the "Knower" of awareness. I'm beginning to wonder if
Pirsig's notion of experience as reality leaves something out. Indeed,
doesn't intellect always leave something out?

Thanks for your replies.
Platt

Ron:
Because Pirsig does not posit a knower as separate and distinct from
experience. That is the conceptual paradox that does not exist,
the paradox is an illusion of conceptualizing a knower separate
and distinct from experience. It creates a false problem.
this is the central theme of the MoQ in my opinion.
How you associated this conception to it's linguistic
referent is right on the money.
