[MD] "The Girl in the Cafe"

Marsha,

     My wife and I watched the movie last night.  It was good.  We laughed at times, sometimes due to the politicans antics as he tried to cultivate a relationship with the woman - he was hesitant to say the least and didn't know how to approach her at times.  It was thoughtful, especially when she tried to discuss with the G8 members as if they were simple, ordinary cafe people, but they were offended by her not speaking through the proper formal channels.  It was not only hilarious, but it shows how formalized systems bring the people who participate in these formalized systems away from the more cafe type atmosphere were you can sit anywhere, as the political man looked for a seat, didn't see one, so he asked to sit down with somebody else.  It is about the type of system one is participating in, but the contrast was apparent between her discussing the issue freely while everybody else was more a "yes man" (just following the leader).  What I didn't
 like about the movie is how she left the man even though she and he seemingly fell in love.  I didn't get that part at all.  He even stood up to them in the hallway at the end, and spoke up as she did, he quit, and left to be with her, but she still turned him away.  Maybe she simply didn't want to be with him anymore, but her reason was, as she said to the guy, "Look at you and me, do you really think we could be together?"  The guy did answer and say, "No."  I don't know what she meant, was it simply because she wanted to be alone?  Don't know.  That wasn't her spoken reason.  And why did he say, "No."  They seemed to not only have the same interests, but a growing love for each other and "poof" - gone for no reason.  Did the love leave?  The story didn't say.
     The movie does also show that people in politics, some unknown number of them, are really trying to do good, as the movie tried to point out, these eight people could decide the fate of millions for they had the power to do so.  Yet, I'm more of a grass-roots kind of person, so, it would be better in my opinion, if people could have the ability to change events on their own more.  Art at a grass-roots level.  Creating moral change on their own.
      How about you?  Why was that a movie that you valued?
