Some thoughts:

When I became certified for first aid, one aspect was made clear
To us, that if we (those who were certified) neglected anyone
In need of first aid, we were to be held accountable on charges
Of negligence.

Likewise, since I am trained in the martial arts, if I kill someone
In the act of defending property or any other misuse such as excessive
Force, I am held accountable.

In some facets, we as citizens of our society do have a certain
responsibility toward our fellow citizens despite our personal
Prejudices.

Democracy is not majority rule, democracy is ensuring the 
Rights of the Minority from rule of the majority. This is the value
Of the individual and the beauty of the constitution.
