Thanks for your answer Bo
Indeed I have found myself practicing as a "missionary" a bit - and met with
the frustration that leads to, as I'm sure many here recognize =) That is
the way that is, and of course if one comes across something so. well,
beautiful as the MoQ one wants to show it to others. The comparison to
trying to make other people appreciate a painting that you yourself find to
be strikingly beautiful comes to mind. Some people, of course, don't care
about art at all, and so doesn't even try to appreciate the painting at
hand, and other people, well, they may be to stuck in what they have
concluded to be "good" art to look at what you wish to show them. Some
people will like it though, and so I think, that trying to show this
painting to people, that of the MoQ is a good thing - though to do so
requires that one doesn't try too hard I think.
But, as for the use of the MoQ in, well, academic work it will be in this
case, here lies the most frustrating part of it all. I am studying to become
a historian, and I very much would like to use and incorporate an MoQ view
in my studies, something that I have already done a bit I might ad. Of
course I don't want to "resolve a metaphysical argument at the end of each
sentence" but neither do I wish to continue my studies with philosophical
tools that I know to be inferior. The thought has crossed my mind that
perhaps my future within the field of history is already doomed because of
this, but I don't think It will come to that.
Hehe, and one last thing, concerning what you wrote last Bo:
>Well, after SOM (still intellect in my opinion) introduced the
>notion of TRUTH - of objectivity as contrasted to subjectivity - it's
>difficult to avoid claiming that the MOQ is true and the SOM
>false, meaning that the totality (MOQ) is greater than one of its
>levels. About the MOQ being no truth sounds like being false, the
>"many truths" is a dubious proposition.
It is hard, when talking about this not to sound like a pompous prophet isn't
it =) At least one knows that that's how it might be interpreted in the mind
of someone dedicated to the SOM. I mean, the SOM, or, rather, the scientific
thinking of today has a very strong immune system aimed towards everything
even remotely sounding like "mysticism" and understandably so, it took time
for this intellectual level to overcome the former, and Voltaire's "Écrasez
l'Infame!" - and all that this total denunciation of the "old ways"
represent, has no doubt served intellectual quality.
The question remains then - is this the way the MOQ should proceed?
PS I would like to express my appreciation of the opportunity to participate
in this discussion, thoughts easily eludes me unless I have some way of
ventilating them.
Tackar Hjärtligast! =)
Chris
