David,

Where is it that you think the East is not assimilating Western values?   Or 
who is this eastern mystic that is sitting around meditating whilst the 
world goes to hell?   The Dalai Lama hasn't been ignoring western science. 
I've read his, 'The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science 
and Spirituality.'

Have you read Nagarjuna's MMK?

I'm not sure who here can properly represent the disinterested meditating 
mystic, but since I misinterpreted your initial post, why don't you reset 
the discussion.
