[MD] Here come the censors

Arlo,

What you say below has been what I've been talking
about. I don't understand why it took so long. This
does not end here in these U.S. borders, but a scale
down of weapons around the world could happen unless
some group wants to tyrannize everybody else and
thus keep their weapons. To have such a higher grade
of armament than anybody else is to use as brute force
only. There would be no other reason if all other groups
scale back. Those that build up armaments of higher
grades than most people and most nation-states is only
for the purpose of tyranny - no more, no less. Thus, a gov't
that builds up armaments that are not able to be distributed
widely is because most people agree these armaments are too
dangerous to be distributed widely, thus, if they are so
dangerous, then nobody ought to be able to have them for
it is about morality. Who am I to give trust to others to
act with morally when those same people wouldn't trust my
morally? It is an easy path to tyranny that's why. Our little
ant antenna ought to go up when somebody says to us, "Oh,
those weapons are too dangerous for you to have, so, we'll
make them and keep them for you." They are instantly
monopolizing who is moral and who is not! That's what
tyrants do.

[Woods]
Arlo, instead of everybody having to fit into your paradigm why not consider something else for a change?

[Arlo]
Okay, Woods. What "something else" do you offer? What "paradigm" is it your position is advancing? Correct me when I am wrong.

Let's start with your initial claim "any weapon held by your neighbors should be able to be held by you".

The military are our neighbors.

Conclusion: if our neighbors in the military have Abrams tanks, then you should be able to have one as well.

That's not a new paradigm, Woods. That's simply saying there should be no line. Okay, fair enough. You want no line. I get that. Then why on earth do you have such a hard time saying this includes nuclear weapons? What about tanks? F16s? Bazookas? You want to talk in lofty and pointless abstractions, I am talking about the real and pragmatic ENDS of those abstractions.

[Woods]
Your a war-mongering tyrant it would seem.

[Arlo]
Ouch. Well, Platt would agree with tyrant, although I've never been called "war-mongering" before.

[Woods]
You question my morality!!!

[Arlo]
No, so far only your sanity. :-)

[Woods]
Nuclear weapons could destroy this world! Are you freakin' kiddin' me? We need to get rid of these nukes!

[Arlo]
Whoooaaaa... could it be? An answer finally??? It seems so! Let me go back and modify this, see if this is really what you are saying.

Let's start with your initial claim "any weapon held by your neighbors should be able to be held by you".

The military are our neighbors.

Conclusion: if our neighbors in the military have Abrams tanks, then you should be able to have one as well.

Modified Conclusion: if YOU are not able to have an Abrams tank, then the military should not have them either.

So it appears you are taking your "all neighbors" stance not to ARM the citizenry, but to DISARM the military!

Before this jubilation goes to my head, let me just get clarification from you that this is what you are saying. Because if it is.. then I fully retract all my black helicopter and paranoia comments and throw myself at the mercy of your forgiveness.

If this is what you are saying, then please chastise me at your leisure, I deserve it. Here I was thinking you were arguing to arm the civilians with nuclear weapons and tanks to fight off tyrannical armies, when all the while you've been saying the opposite. If so, I'm man enough to admit my mistake, Woods. Take your best shot then, I deserve it.
