Woods previously argues:
"And this money stuff, that's why I call for only a sales
tax. Rid all other taxes. This way, if greed or other forces infect the
money
system (which can bring good when good people are involved), then we
can escape the infected system without being forced to work in
that kind of infected environment. You can escape out of that infected
system, by choice or by crisis, and easily find homage in the other
systems still in play".

Andre:
I am not sure what you are getting at here Woods.
We have created a whole host of inorganic, organic and social patterns of
value that need to be maintained whether we use them at a particular time or
not. I mean roads,railways,farming,irrigation,waterpurification
systems,schools,laboratories,governments,forests you name it.These static
patterns al require funding, monies, workers etc etc so that when we go to
sleep of an evening we won't have to worry about whether they will still be
there in the morning.
How can this work with only a sales tax?

woods:
This debate is circulated even in mainstream U.S., but is discussed, then goes
away, discussed, goes away... It is a sales tax that would pay for all these static
patterns you outline above. It is also called the fair tax and has been brought up
in the U.S. legislative branch (Congress). It also includes a provision for monthly
tax rebates to people below the poverty line. Here's a wikipedia source that could
go more into the details:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairTax

Andre:
Maybe I am misunderstanding you but it reminds me the argument of an
Australian Medical Doctor who was vehemently opposed to paying taxes
claiming he'd worked so hard all his life, his success was due to his own
efforts, discipline and dilligence etc etc....he of course forgot to mention
he had attended pre-school (Govt financed), primary school (Govt financed),
High school (Govt financed) Uni (Govt financed) medical based placements at
various hospitals (Govt financed) You know what I am getting at? And now of
course he was working as a GP in the private sector making heaps.

woods:
Did he ever buy anything? If so, then he would be taxed under the fair tax.
I'll go back to the freely opting out event. This crisis is a good situation to recognize
this opting out. If times are getting so tough and you can't pay certain bills, well, if you
had solar or wind energy at your house, which I'm currently looking into to get I've come
across some inexpensive options in this regard, anyways, if the economy becomes
very expensive and you need to cut back, well, your still hamstringed/trapped into paying
taxes and this could be the make it or break it for you to be able to stay in your house. I'm
saying, without going into too many details, that if events bottom out severely, then you
have something to fall back on that doesn't force you to pay taxes. In other words, you
don't become a criminal if you don't pay your taxes, but if you buy anything, wood for the
farm, gas, food, etc... you will pay a fair tax. If you do much on your own and are
self-reliant and more self-subsistent, then good I don't see why that person would have
to pay into a system that they have burdened by their dependence.

Andre:
And I think back to farming won't work either.

woods:
Why not? Even the Amish, a very self-subsistent community that still rides
around in horse and buggy in this area, buys stuff every once and awhile, even from
each other. One Amish is a lumberer, another makes furniture, most are also farmers,
etc... so fair tax on these products.

Andre:
Anyway, let me throw in another thing which you may laugh at but I'll do it
anyway. Money is a social benefit, we all agree on that. The MoQ is a
wonderfull intellectual pattern of value. Can we imagine a world without
money? Can we come up with a social benefit to replace money with? Or is
this too far fetched? We have to agree we must not go back to the barter
system.
Food for thought or laughed out of court?

woods:
Hey, if we can do it, without money, then there might be even more
flexibility and I'm all for that. I'm just trying to work with what I have and know
that might be better. But a no money world might work. I don't know how
that would apply. If you have any further ideas?
