Woods argues:
"And this money stuff, that's why I call for only a sales
tax. Rid all other taxes. This way, if greed or other forces infect the
money
system (which can bring good when good people are involved), then we
can escape the infected system without being forced to work in
that kind of infected environment. You can escape out of that infected
system, by choice or by crisis, and easily find homage in the other
systems still in play".
I am not sure what you are getting at here Woods.
We have created a whole host of inorganic, organic and social patterns of
value that need to be maintained whether we use them at a particular time or
not. I mean roads,railways,farming,irrigation,waterpurification
systems,schools,laboratories,governments,forests you name it.These static
patterns al require funding, monies, workers etc etc so that when we go to
sleep of an evening we won't have to worry about whether they will still be
there in the morning.
How can this work with only a sales tax?
Maybe I am misunderstanding you but it reminds me the argument of an
Australian Medical Doctor who was vehemently opposed to paying taxes
claiming he'd worked so hard all his life, his success was due to his own
efforts, discipline and dilligence etc etc....he of course forgot to mention
he had attended pre-school (Govt financed), primary school (Govt financed),
High school (Govt financed) Uni (Govt financed) medical based placements at
various hospitals (Govt financed) You know what I am getting at? And now of
course he was working as a GP in the private sector making heaps.
And I think back to farming won't work either.
Anyway, let me throw in another thing which you may laugh at but I'll do it
anyway. Money is a social benefit, we all agree on that. The MoQ is a
wonderfull intellectual pattern of value. Can we imagine a world without
money? Can we come up with a social benefit to replace money with? Or is
this too far fetched? We have to agree we must not go back to the barter
system.
Food for thought or laughed out of court?
Andre
