It would seem our culture has really taken this to heart.

Then again that is the price you pay for being in a dynamic society vs a
static society. Did you ever see the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. sure
it painted things with a broad brush and there were a lot of
stereotypical things in there, but you get the idea of static and dynamic
families.
The bad side to that, is that it's hard to strike out on your own and
soar above the rest, the good side is that the close knit clan is there
to catch you if you fall.
Thinking outside the box and expressing progressive ideas tend to be
taboo.
