I should know better by now.
All the points ( red herrings ) you laid out are interesting but moot. Effigies, posters, publications and so on are covered by our bill of rights. For now at least.
The discussion is hate speech vs. free speech.
"Hate" is just an empty box with the label "hate" stuck to it. Any asswipe can toss whatever they like into the box and !presto! we have a working definition.
Even using the term "hate speech" is tautological. I am not convinced that such a thing exists in a non-politicized sense.
Wilders today, Bensinger soon.

Better put Orwell on your summer reading list.
[Arlo]
Recall that in 1984, the people were kept in line by a government sold "war",
their senses kept in check by the constant barrage of "fear the boogeymen" (not
his words, of course). The constant "enemy", always at our doors, always one
step away from raping your daughter and eating your puppy, the enemy, a
subhuman, violent, non-reasoning group that seeks only to destroy YOU...
support the state or else THE ENEMY WILL GET YOU!
Yes, many people should put Orwell on their summer reading list.
I've posted this before, but since you mention Orwell, I thought I'd post it
again. The quote is from Wikipedia, reproduced from "Collected Essays".
""My recent novel [Nineteen Eighty-Four] is NOT intended as an attack on
Socialism or on the British Labour Party (of which I am a supporter) but as a
show-up of the perversions ... which have already been partly realized in
Communism and Fascism. ...The scene of the book is laid in Britain in order to
emphasize that the English-speaking races are not innately better than anyone
else and that totalitarianism, if not fought against, could triumph anywhere."
