John,

I have no knowledge of a sinister force at work in the world other 
than our egotistical selves.

The one thing I can say about my late-in-life education, and that was 
it gave me the ability to move away from family patterns.  And even 
the fact that I, a woman, had a brain was a shift away from a family 
pattern.  My father and his father were Prussians.  So while I agree 
with Gatto's demeaning of our education system, I hated k-12 (it 
bored me to ears), when I was finally ready, it was a blessing.
