It's no use speculating about why the WTC, Pentagon and/or the
White House (where Flight 93 was headed) were chosen, I guess due
to the spectacular effect.
One reason why fundamentalist Moslem cultures have
become so fanatic in their hatred of the West is that it has
released the biological forces of evil that Islam has fought for
centuries to control. (LILA p. 312)
This is MOQ's gigantic overview, from inside the Islam (religion)
variety of the social level there is no recognition of being a bulwark
against biological forces or anything. They (the islamists) only see the
relentless Western pressure as a deadly danger to Islam (which it truly
is). And the West is just as blind to its Q-intellectual role, but sees its
mission as that of development, democracy, health, education ... etc.
and can't understand why - for the instance - the Taleban resist their
effort in Afghanistan..
Emotions as the social level's "expression" and "reason" as intellect's
ditto aren't directly involved, but explains why/how people can be
recruited for suicide actions like the 11. Sep "pilots". They hated the
West so intensely and loved the Prophet accordingly as to be able to
sacrifice their lives for the Great Cause. The chief "pilot" (Bhatta?) left
notes of his deep emotional involvement). The West's intellectual-
rational approach explain this in psychological terms as seduction
an/or brainwash, but only the MOQ sees the big picture. But - alas -
who wants the MOQ's view?

PS
One may also speculate on the wisdom of these attacks and the ones
in London and Madrid, it's mostly resulted in a general disgust over a
religion that can inspire such deeds. In this country it resulted in a
prominent islam convert tore the "hijab" and left islam. It's told (by his
son) that Bin Laden wanted to lure the USA into the present quagmire
it is in in Iraq and Afghanistan, and if so he succeeded.
