Steve replied:
Would you like to point out where I said something inconsistent with the MOQ? ...Can you explain what I said that is inconsistent with the above? I think you must be misinterpreting me or Pirsig or both.
dmb says:
Seriously? You really don't see how your Rortyism is different from the MOQ?
The MOQ subscribes to empiricism. Instead of saying experience is the test of truth, you conclude (with Rorty) that it's a matter of verbal agreement. As you put it, "We are left to hash this out in conversation when we want to convince someone else of what we want them to believe and why we think that they ought to be convinced to believe it."
With all due respect, Steve, how many times do I have to explain this? The answer was already in the post you replied to. It seems like your usual response to my answer is the ask the question that was just answered. Instead of making me repeat myself all the time, how about if you just read each of my posts three or four times before responding. You know, because reading is so much easier than typing. That's how I do it. I read the post all the way through, then I read it again to select the most relevant parts, then I read each part again carefully as I'm writing the response. But to repeatedly ask the question that's just been answered... Well it looks real sloppy and careless.
The difference is between experience and language, Steve, and we've been talking about that difference for months. If you don't see it by now, I guess you never will. I give up. It's just too frustrating.
