WaveDave (I just can't forget your once pet name)
3 Aug. you wrote something that looked like a farewell to the MD and I
regret that. These your two last post were much needed summaries of
a decade of struggling with Pirsig's Metaphysics of Quality and if my
name were included in the thread it's because - IMHO - I've brought it
back to Phaedrus original form. Not that the said form was complete,
but it contained the most important part, namely "intellect as SOM" the
introduction of the 3 levels before intellect poses no problem if only the
4th. level' "nature" is what it was meant to be.
In other words we have reached a milestone, no longer can the sub-
set "intellect" devour the total MOQ by the outrageous claim that the
MOQ is an intellectual pattern and - further - that intellect can be put
right by rising on top of the SOM inside this mind-like construct. This is
what hs ailed the MOQ from day one. What caused Pirsig to clown
around with his own grand creation is a mystery, an even worse joke is
the Quality/MOQ "meta-metaphysics" and that will have to be the next
target.
Too bad you see some totally irrelevant issues as the flaw, all this is
made good by SOL's "strong interpretation".

Dave riding into the sunset. Welcome back any time.
