As an equal opportunity snark slinger let me point out that DT was ready to
throw Pirsig under the bus and chuck the whole thing. I have at least
offered suggestions which I think are consistent, if not with some Pirsig's
specifics, at least aimed in the direction of the moon toward which he
points. To whit:

1. Shit Happens. 
2. Quality is Chaos
3. Quality (Chaos) has two aspects DQ (uncertainty) SQ (certainty) 
4. Value (meaning) is reduction of uncertainty.  
   (That is, meaning results from and results in,  
   our ability to create and manipulate static quality) 
5. Biological organisms are the meaning (SQ) that evolution  
   derives from chaos. 
6. As such organisms, we create SQ from the DQ around us or to use 
   James' terms, we derive concepts from experience

Or this one: Pirsig's real contribution could be taken as synthesizing
Darwin and Lao Tsu. Much of my vitriol arises from the realization that he
or at least his apologists don't quite seem to get either of them right.
