Dan said to John:
I tend to dismiss the "hive mind" notion, John. Sorry. Seems a bit melodramatic but that's just me. In the MOQ, social patterns of value are likened to the Giant. I tend to believe that's what you are on about in most of your posts, this one included. The Giant devours the individual. The Giant is all around.

dmb says:
Yep, I agree with Dan. I think John's complaints about the hive mind have very little to do with the intellectual level. The social level, where fame and fortune drives the engine, has become a pretty empty thing in our consumer culture. The whole thing is about who's cool and who has the latest gadgets and who adopts the latest tends the fastest. It's like the whole country is in high school. Cinema, the art form that's ever existed, is mostly used to dish up comic book heros. We live in a baby-proofed McDisney world where even the grown ups are children. That's not intellect. That's just infantile hedonism - make that gasoline-powered infantile hedonism.

Twinkie anyone?
