John said to dmb:
What sort of writing would you consider, "good ideas"? Give me an example so we know where you're coming from. I mean, a new idea, of course. Something fundamentally different than "liberal - good; conservative ba--ah-ah-d"
dmb says:
Seriously? There are lots of good posters and some bad ones. You can see that I react differently, either extending or praising the good ideas and disputing the bad ones. When I think somebody has the wrong idea, I try to say why it's wrong and offer a better one in it's place. Sometimes this improvement project is real easy. Often, all it takes is a quote from a dictionary or an encyclopedia because the bad idea is bad enough that it can be improved by common sense. In my opinion, if your ideas can be disputed that easily you probably don't belong here.
But when good ideas are disputed by other good ideas, then we're doing philosophy. Then we're having fun and we're probably learning something too. Isn't that the point?
