As noted above, Pirsig uses the term ‘Dynamic Quality’ (to denote the continually changing flux of immediate reality) and ‘static quality’ (for any pattern that appears long enough to be abstracted from this flux). ‘Static quality’ refers to anything that can be conceptualised and is a synonym for the conditioned in Buddhist philosophy.
