  Ian to Andre:

Anybody suggesting "We've been kicked in the ass, so we'll have to
kick back" is suggesting getting even .... a complete perversion of "do as
you would be done by".

Would = would wish to be.

It's just a simple statement of the Buddhist (Vedic and earlier) golden rule
"don't do as you would not be done by if you prefer". It's a proactive
statement about living life.

Who's the cynic ?

I am the cynic Ian, and have said so. I placed this statement in the world of competitiveness
which, as you may know, is pushed as the driving force within a free market system. The European
Union is pushing this morality as the highest good. The assumption underlying this seems to be that
where a system is set up to out smart,out do, out wit eachother towards ever efficient forms of working
and producing quality products and quality services this should lead (theoretically) to lower prices to
benefit most of the consumers... . ( I place the out smart, out wit and out do practices on a stimulating
to betterness scale (legally) but what about the illegal stuff going on (sabotage, industrial espionage
shadow accountancy practices, powerful, self interested lobbying etc etc.)

It seems to me that the social level is driven, at present, by these sorts of economic considerations.
Considerations which place 'harming others' in the framework of 'how strong are they?' and'how well can
they bounce back'(and this is a measure of how 'healthy' someone(a company)is.

It seems to me a 'do unto others before they do it unto you' attitude regardless of what you would wish for.

These practices seem be be accepted as the norm nowadays. It's the Giant and its tentacles.

Ahh, maybe I am too cynical Ian?
