[Mark]
Intelligent design does not require a God, but even that is despised by many
scientists and teachers. It seems that the only thing that is appropriate is
some nebulous randomness that progresses through chance.

[Arlo]
Well, as I said, there are many things not taught in schools, such as
flat-earth theory. There are many who think 9/11 was an inside job, should we
teach that in our schools too? Ultimately we have to draw a line, and that line
is flexible and changes and that is how it should be. "Intelligent design" is
simply a back-door approach to getting creationism taught as scientifically
valid. You can do this when you've successfully diminished "science" to the
status of "religion".

[Mark]
It is you that is elevating science to the status of religion.

[Arlo]
So we move from the failed attempts at elevating religion to science, to the
failed attempts to reduce science to just another religion, to the attempt to
place religion above science. Besides, I thought it was you who said science is
another religion, which would make them equal "worldviews". Are you now saying
religion is superior to science? Does that mean science is NOT a religion?

[Mark in reply]
Sorry if that hurt your feelings.

[Arlo]
And do you think the effects of this racism are confined to droll comments in a
small bar?

[Mark]
The farther you lift the pendulum, the farther it swings in the other
direction.

[Arlo]
Well like I said, I think we need to readdress our strategies, where they have
failed and where they have succeeded.

[Mark]
No, those which you hear and mimic in your posts..

[Arlo]
Such as?... I don't have cable, btw, so I don't watch any television. I listen
to NPR's Wait Wait and Car Talk podcasts, I read Der Spiegel and the get some
news from the BBC. I'll check CNN for the major headlines, to see if any planes
crashed, or war broke out, or big events. But other than this I totally avoid
"news". I don't listen to any talk-radio at all.

[Arlo previously]
Why? If "PC" is such a great evil, why don't you call him to his face what you
call him behind his back? Coward?

[Mark in reply]
Yes, sometimes I have to lean forward to get a job.

[Arlo]
So, to clarify, you think "PC" is a great evil because it "forces" you not to
call a mentally-handicapped person a "retard" to their face.

Life is so frickin' cruel, Mark... How you suffer, I feel your pain.
