Hi Adrie

I recall years ago that my grandmother (maiden name: Mary Molitor)
would get drunk at Christmas and sing us German songs. So I always
thought of her as having German ancestry. However, after a bit of
research, I found out this about my great-great-grandfather (my
maternal grandmother's grandfather):

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:ag1228&id=I0010

Name: JOHN NICOLAS MOLITOR
Sex: M
Birth: 25 Dec 1832 in HEFFINGEN LUXEMBURGH
Death: 27 Jan 1924
Note:
John came to this country in 1849. He was a farmer and the father of
13 children,9 girls and 4 boys. He had his farm and enough to live on.

He was about 5 ft tall and weighed 140 lbs. He had sandy hair and
brown eyes, and a darker than fair complexion. His appearance was that
of a very plain man but he was very friendly and jolly.

John's education was little but his memory and alertness made up for
his lack of education. He was persistent, ambitious and tactful.

His religion was that of Roman Catholic. He died of old age.
(transcribed from the 1933-34 research by Marguerite Molitor Horton)

John's tombstone is in Annunciation cemetery in Marywood, IL. He is
buried next to his wife. One the same stone there is a person named
Anna Molitor who was born 11/24/1878 and died 11/28/1895. As of 1994,
the relationship of this person is unknown.

Dan comments:

My mother is buried in that same cemetary. Her name was Lorraine.

Thanks for sharing,

Dan
