Hi Adrie

I don't know if this will help...

When I was in the process of publishing LILA'S CHILD I had an idea for
the book cover: a picture of a doll in the grotto in the Sandy Hook
area where Phaedrus left Lila's doll. Remember?

Anyway, I wrote to Mr. Pirsig asking if a person was to go to New
Jersey and search for the grotto, what would they find? I had a crazy
idea of driving out east, finding the place, bringing an old doll that
matched the description in LILA, and taking a picture to be used as
cover art. My publishing company is named Lost Doll Publishing, btw.

Mr Pirsig wrote back that he had read of Al Gore (who was Vice
President at the time) leading a clean-up of the Sandy Hook naval base
and that the odds were the grotto no longer existed. He also mentioned
that he also had some ideas for cover art of ZMM but the publisher
nixed them, preferring to work with professional graphic artists,
which I found very interesting.

I never made the trip so I don't know what has happened to the area.
But, I would suggest doing a search for Sandy Hook, not Hills, and see
what you come up with. And yes, I would love to see the picture.
Please send it to me privately, if you don't mind.

Thank you!

Dan
