Hello MOQ'rs:
This is from the forword to Dainin Katagiri Roshi's "Returning to
Silence". I have bracketted certain names and words.

"I am honored to introduce [Pirsig's] deep and beautiful [ZMM and LILA]
books. It took me a long time to read [them]. I still have not read
every word. [They are not books] to 'get through'. [They are books] to
live in. Many books are read in pausing from life, when you take some
time off, when you escape, put everything on hold. [These book are
such]; when you live in [them] you are more outside it, more in life.
Read [them] a little and keep [them] near your places. Let [them] be a
friend. Let [them] help you keep the trivia in perspective.
From the very beginning the [books] corners you. [Phaedrus]plainly
tells us: 'The opportunity to experience real [Quality] occurs when we
have been driven into a corner and simply cannot move an inch.'And he
advises wisely that it only takes transcending desire (the quieting of
values are the most difficult, see ZMM) to turn despair at being
cornered into real [Quality], Buddha [Quality], the total manifestation
of our whole personality.

What [books]. What great [gifts]. To open to us our corner. To show us
how, being absolutely trapped is the total freedom of being with all
beings. [Phaedrus] can do this because he speaks without budging from
such a corner, he speaks in the totality of such [Quality]. He and the
corner and his words and the [Quality] are among the dimensions of the
books. Its covers opens and its inconceivability is accessed in our eye
and brain and heart, and our mind and the book and [Phaedrus], and
boundless crying and laughing Buddhas are all together in the bliss
dimensions'.

Perhaps I am exaggerating a bit but it captures the 'spirit' of the MOQ
quite well imho.

Andre.
