Ron:
The MoQ points out /fixes every problem in analytic philosphy because it rejects its foundations,
analytic philosphy is about as dead as a philosophy can get.
Tuukka:
The stance that analytic philosophy is *wrong* is untenable. As for it being "dead" - well, that sure means something to you, but not to me.
Ron:
Analytic philosophy is not "wrong", it simply does not yield the kind of results that were hoped for.
It was hoped to bring the sort of mathematical certainty to linguistic meaning since mathematics
is thought to be a kind of universal language. But math is only as good as the measurements taken,
only as precise as the limits set. Mixing mathematics with metaphysics has always introduced certain
traps in logic. These traps and their consequences philosophically are what we seek to avoid.
Aristotle used to bang on the Pythagoreans about exactly such traps and the assumptions drawn
from them.
