Interesting that no-one else has responded to this 3 day old post from David, one of 3 or 4 he posted recommending reads from "outside" Pirsigland. ... Now tell me MD (with only a couple of exceptions I could name) is not trapped inside a cage of language.

So by "reading" this book, I escape from a "cage of language"?

The larger point, though, is kinda ridiculous, Ian. I'm sure everyone here has dozens of 'recommends' they could make that aren't written by Pirsig. I've made many references over the years to Vygotsky, Bahktin, Michael Tomasello, Steven Johnson, not to mention Hofstadter and Carse. As I said to DMB just recently, one project I am working on involves bridging Piotr Gal'perin's ideas with Pirsig's. I see others make references and suggestions too, and I do note them to get to, maybe, there are only so many hours in the day. Maybe there are other reasons for people not responding than "being trapped inside a cage of language".
