This is not an assertion; it is a question.  It was questioning your assertion that my motivations are based on selfishness.  To that I asked 'how do you know', a question.

I was making no argument in asking this question.  I was asking for information.

It was a question; I was not having a conversation with myself.

Yes, in this case since you have no possible way of knowing my motivations from my side, it is safe to suggest your comments were your projections. I did ask how you knew.  -   But now you accuse me of being ego-centric.  Instead of the negative comments, why don't you tell me how you know my motivations???  How do you KNOW my motivations.  If this is merely your opinion then it is merely your opinion, and that-is-that.  Change your opinion, or don't change your opinion.  I'm not responsible for your attachments.
