[Krimel]> I think you have it backwards. "The instant of vision" is always in the> present. "The instant of awareness" is optional. 
The present is what we are presently aware of & that must, of course,
be the "instant of awareness".  It is optional, but when it occurs,
it is in the present & everything leading up to it is in the past.
