[MF] MOQ: valuable or not?

Hi Kevin - I guess I fall more on the dmb side of this argument. Going past
all the personal attacks, I think Dave has a legitimate question - what does
"God is Love" mean, in a philosophical sense? I've always believed that if
you want to make a claim, philosophically speaking, your terms need to be
well defined. It may mean something to someone in a conversational sense,
but "God is Love" is very ambiguous at best; BOTH those terms have so many
meanings that the phrase, in a philosophical sense, is meaningless.

Kevin, how would you define these terms?

Marty J.

Hello Ted,

Thanks for posting a very thoughtful message.

You asked dmb, "If Kevin also agrees there should be no taboo zones,
then don't you have him where you want him, in terms of debate tactics,
and fairness on the MF/MD?"

I'm perfectly willing to discuss my Christian beliefs and my relationship
with Jesus. But I wouldn't expect that kind of discussion to shed any
light on the Metaphysics of Quality. On the contrary I would expect it to
go the way of Ham's discussions on Essence (ref. MOQ_discuss). No
criticism of Ham or his philosphy. But it isn't cogent to Pirsig's writings
on the Metaphysics of Quality, in my opinion. But I'm open. I'll stay
tuned here to see what comes up.

As for participating in a conversation with dmb. I'll pass. There was
clearly more heat than light in that last exchange.

Until then you may want to check the "Julian Baggini Interview with
Pirsig" thread on MD. Yesterday I posted a response to a message from
Matt Kundert (hello Matt). I suggested one can interact with the "source
of all things."

Kevin
