Arlo,

"Dumb luck" expresses precisely the concept you're trying to get across.  I
mean, if it was guided or intelligent luck we'd be back in the hands of the
big bad manipulative boogeyman in the sky you construe to avoid.

I can't help that it's pejorative, it's accurate!

There's nothing inherently pejorative about boasting:  "It ain't braggin' if
its true."
