[John]
"Dumb luck" expresses precisely the concept you're trying to get across.
[Arlo]
Untrue. "Luck" in and of itself will suffice. If you don't feel your
existence, considering the improbability of your existence, is
"lucky", then I'm not sure what to say.
[John]
I mean, if it was guided or intelligent luck we'd be back in the
hands of the big bad manipulative boogeyman in the sky you construe to avoid.
[Arlo]
If the cosmos was "guided" by some orchestrating "force", then there
would be no freedom in the cosmos, just little puppets animated and
pushed around by Quali-god; a gratifying masturbatory experience for
precisely three minutes.
But hey, if it reeeeally makes you feel better to think that the
entirety of history was "guided" by some willful force, enacting a
plan that would deliberately lead to YOUR existence, then as an
inconsequential puppet existing only to serve the backdrop that is
your deliberated being, what is it us puppets should do for you now?
Or do you see yourself as a brethren puppet, existing only as a cog
in a grander scheme of some other purpose? Maybe you just "think" you
are free, but maybe your entire existence has been orchestrated to
simply decompose and serve as fossil fuel for an as yet un-evolved
species ten million years from now? Maybe "the Great Plan" has this
future species as its goal, and like the dinosaurs must've been for
us, our entire existence is to become oil, like cover crops planted
in between seasons to refertilize the soil for the next real desired seeding?
Would that make your existenial self all happy?
[John]
There's nothing inherently pejorative about boasting: "It ain't
braggin' if its true."
[Arlo]
Who would you "boast" to? Other people who are just as lucky to be
here as you? Why not celebrate WITH them, John?
