Perhaps you can explain how I should think about chance.

You say: "chance means 'I don't know and haven't the slightest idea of how
to find out.'" I took this to mean the kind of chance the Pirsig talks about
usually. This would be a kind of primordial chaos or a pure randomness
unconstrained by any relationship to anything.
But, what did you mean?

To each his own. But talk about uncertainty! Anybody who has started a
business or invests in our capitalistic system knows about the risk of
losing your shirt. Old Sam happened to make it big by giving the people what
they wanted -- low prices. God bless him. But for every Sam there are
hundreds of losers. But, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try
again. That's the American way, and worth a prayer of gratitude now and
then.

I only attend services when the wife needs something. I am not all that
devout. For priestess's who know how to please give me the Temple of Ishtar
any day.
