Dan Glover,
Thank you very much for the Alan Watts link.
Here's two quotes from the shambhala link that really
captivated, awestruck me as follows:
"But ordinarily we do not discover the wisdom of
our feelings... they are a process of creation which,
like birth, begins as a pain and turns into a child."
- Alan Watts
What a great metaphor!
"Now, the reason why I am talking of feeling
rather than outward action is that I am considering
the predicament of man in the face of events about
which nothing can be doneevents toward which our sole
response is a response of feeling. I am thinking of
the ultimate certainty of death, the overall
helplessness of man within the vast tide of life, and,
finally, of the very special feelings which arise when
we are faced with a conflict of feelings which cannot
be resolved. All these situations evoke feelings
which, in the long run, are as irresistible as the
situations themselves are insoluble. They are the
ultimate feelingsand much of what is called
philosophy is the fruitless attempt to talk oneself
out of them." - Alan Watts
This connected with me greatly. The "...special
feelings which arise when we are faced with a conflict
of feelings which cannot be resolved." may be
different with everybody, but the profoundness of
truth of these kinds of feelings, that in hindsight,
where I work, they arise, day after day, with no end
seemingly in sight. The problems, the anger, the
pains, the insincerity, the grandstanding (by staff),
the different approaches staff have (and how that
might become a conflict), and etc... I am trapped in a
corner, I must face these events over and over again.
I question myself. I say things to only want to stick
my foot in my mouth later on. I seek a path through
the mess. I find out no manual comes with the
territory.
I don't want to say too much. This was very
helpful, thanks.
Thanks,
SA
