MITMOAT isn't even a Pirsig statement. It goes back over a couple thousand
years to Protagoras and we've discussed it many times here. But Micah
doesn't seem to be in the mood for discussion. He seems to want to preach.
Each time someone broaches any subject with him he consistently hurtles
MITMOAT at them.

The fact of the matter is that MITMOAT is but a tiny part of the MOQ.
There's so many more ideas contained therein that it becomes very
frustrating for me (and others I am sure) to continue reading the same
statement over and over and then being told we're all a bunch of idiots
because we just don't get it.

We like to poke fun here (isn't that really why we're here, for fun?) but I
really don't think anyone is seeking to belittle another member. I know I'm
not. I would suggest dropping the focus on MITMOAT and delving into other
aspects of the MOQ might be a better approach.

[Case]
I was going to point out that MITMOAT was not original to Pirsig but got
distracted. However, I would like to point to this news item I found on a
blog somewhere on the internet:

"Archeologists from Frigum University recent reported an astounding
discovery from the Greek city of Abordom. FU spokesperson Fullblown Puffery
said the team has uncovered what they believe to be the actual tomb of
Protagoras. While all that was previously known of the pre-Socratic
philosopher was his famous quote, "Man is the measure of all things." The FU
team found an inscription on the tomb that they claim will revolutionize
pre-Socratic studies. "It's just a single letter," Puffery told reporters.
"But that letter has shaken our understanding of ancient philosophy."

The letter in question is the Greek letter rho. Apparently it was dropped in
ancient times, Puffery said. What Protagoras actually said, as indicated on
his tomb stone was "Man is the measurer of all things." Rather than a being
a philosopher Protagoras apparently was a surveyor."

Who knew?
