Hi John :-)

Thin lines between irony and sarcasm and plain misunderstanding when
the tone is lost in e-mail.
It's why I always use emoticons / smilies when I do try irony or
humour - anally boring I know.

;-) for irony specifically - you "know" I'm joking, or do you ?
:-) for light-hearted remark - please don't build an argument or
thesis out of it.
"scare quotes" for be careful reading these words.

Others are more "mischievous" ;-)
